Middle school practices will take place during the time of
EHS Nordic practices, 1-2 days a week. Sessions
will last approximately one hour, beginning around 3:15. Location of practices will vary depending on
where there is snow, but most will be held on the athletic fields behind EHS. A mass email will be sent out to all middle
school and high school skiers at the beginning of every week. This will show what days middle school
skiers are invited to practice along with practice location. Stay tuned to the home page of this blog for start dates/times and other announcements.
The main focus to build experience on Nordic skis and to
have fun doing it! This will include
technique building activities, games on skis (tag, ball games, relays, etc…)
and an introduction to speed to learn how to ski fast! For many of the activities, middle schoolers
will be joined in with the high school skiers.
Do skiers need prior experience?
No. Although some experience on skis is always beneficial, it is not necessary. Again, the whole idea with this is to acquire basic skiing skills and to develop comfort on skis. Those who have mastered basic skills are encouraged to participate in middle school races.
When and where are
races?
Middle school races will take place on the same day and at
the same location as high school races.
Most M.S. races begin 30 minutes or so before the High School. A race
schedule will be distributed in early October.
Racers will be given uniforms.
For weekday practices held at EHS, skiers will need to be responsible
for their own transportation. For any
weekend practice or race held away from the EHS, middle school skiers are
welcome to ride the high school bus.
