Training for Monday, July
22nd -
We cannot do Indian Brook Monday as originally scheduled.
Not everyone has park passes, and due to the park's high visitor usage,
they are no longer issuing passes (even to town residents). So, in substitute
we will spend time on rollerskis!!
The plan -
- Meet at EHS in the back parking lot at 4:00. Please bring
skate rollerkski equipment (with helmet!). For those of you who only have
classic equipment, you can classic ski for the evening. If you do not own
rollerskis I will have three sets available with SNS bindings, so bring boots
and poles. I will also have a pair of NNN skate skis.
- Hop into rollerskis, quick warm up in parking lot.
- Ski north on 2A to Tree Farm bike path where we will do the most
of our skiing.
Main Goal(s) for Monday
1) For those who have spent very little or no time ever on
rollerskis - Basic intro work: safety and technique.
2) For those who have spent time on rollerksis this summer - This
will be a great time to do what I call 'just ski!' I would like to do a
bit of speed stuff near the end, but my main priority is for you to get in a
longer continuous training effort without me covering a lot of specific
technique stuff. As much as technique work and drills are crucial for
skier development, I believe some of the biggest strides are made when skiers
have opportunities to 'just ski', and practice what they have already been
exposed to, but have not yet mastered. In other words, a coach might
always have a new drill to demonstrate, or a technique tip to remind you of, but
if skiers are not given (or make) opportunities to practice on their own, then
it can be hard to successfully process and put together everything they have
been taught already. Or put even more
simply – I improved the most when coaches were out of my hair and I had the
chance to absorb things and practice on my own!
