Thanksgiving at Craftsbury

The Craftsbury Outdoor Center is back in action for another winter! Thanks to excellent snow making capabilities, skiers from all around the region were able to spend time getting in those first few ‘K’s of the year. With a 1.4 kilometer loop open, and at least 12” of firm packed snow, conditions were almost like the middle of the winter! As many of you know, both Craftsbury and ‘The Range’ were big saviors for us last year during such a terrible snow year. If those two places did not have the capability for making artificial snow, it would have been very tough for area high school teams to have a season.

This past Saturday Craftsbury held their ‘Opener Race.’ With a large field of very strong skiers, Liam John, an Essex Nordic Alumni, and current skier at St. Olaf, Minn., finished in 35th place (17:15), while younger brother Ethan John finished 59th (19:27). Again, this field of racers included many elite Division 1 racers from UVM and other Colleges, as well as national level skiers including ex Olympian Justin Freeman. Both Liam and Ethan participated in the annual 5 day Thanksgiving camp held at Craftsbury.

Below are pictures from Craftsbury taken today. Ski season is officially here!
